Care Leavers and Foyer Residents Bursary

Buttle UK Quality Mark

The University of Portsmouth has recently been awarded the Buttle UK Quality Mark. The Quality Mark represents a statement of commitment from us as an institution to meet certain criteria demonstrating our commitment to support this group of students.

Additional financial support available to Care Leavers

If you have ever been in care or looked after by a Local Authority you may be entitled to additional financial support from the Student Finance Centre.

In addition to the statutory support available from the Government, an annual non-income assessed bursary of £1,500 is offered to eligible home (UK) undergraduate and postgraduate full-time students, who have previously spent a significant time in care, some of which has been in their teens. Conditions apply so contact us for more details.

If you think you qualify for the Care Leavers Bursary contact Laura Carpenter at the Student Finance Centre and ask for an application form. Alternatively, call 023 9284 3014 or drop into the office on the second floor of the Nuffield Centre, and speak to a member of our experienced team - there's no need to make an appointment. The final deadline for receipt of applications in each academic year will be the end of April, subject to budget limitations.

Foyer Residents/Sheltered Accommodation Bursary

This is a non-income assessed annual bursary of £1,500 for home (UK) undergraduate and postgraduate full-time students. To be eligible for this bursary, you must have spent time living in a Foyer Federation or Sheltered accommodation. In most cases this will have been for a significant period of time and for reasons related to your physical or mental well-being. Evidence of this will be required when you make an application.
