New full-time undergraduates from England
Students starting a full-time undergraduate course in 2013/14 should apply for their funding using the online application system at Student Finance England. This application covers all of the funding available to you, except the Childcare Grant and Disabled Students Allowance. If you wish to apply for a Childcare Grant or Disabled Students Allowance, you can indicate this on the online application and the relevant forms will be sent to you.
If you are unable to apply on line you can request a paper form from Student Finance England by telephoning them on 0845 300 50 90, or alternatively contact us and we can arrange to send you a copy to download and print. The recommended deadline to apply for funding is 31 May 2013. You can apply after this date but if you do you are not guaranteed to have any funding in place for the start of term. The final deadline for applications for the 2013/14 academic year is 31 May 2014.
Once your application has been processed you will receive a notification letter from Student Finance England, confirming your loan (and grant) entitlement. This will also include a declaration form which you must sign and return before any funding can be paid to you. By signing the form you are agreeing to the terms and conditions, not the amount of funding shown on the letter, so if this is incorrect, you can still sign the declaration and return it. You will be able to download copies of any letters that Student Finance England send you from your online account.
To apply for the University of Portsmouth Bursary, simply agree to share your information on your online application. By doing this, details of your household income will be shared with us at the University and our Academic Registry department will process your bursary application.
If you are eligible for a fee discount the university will advise you by email and ask for your preference of a tuition fee or accommodation discount. If you choose the accommodation option and are subsequently offered a place in halls of residence this will be applied to your halls fees. If you choose the tuition fee option, or if you are not successful in gaining a place in halls of residence the discount will be automatically applied to your tuition fees. We will then advise Student Finance England who will change your tuition fee loan amount accordingly.
For more information about the University of Portsmouth Bursary please see our Bursaries page.

New full-time undergraduates from England studying NHS courses
Students starting one of the following courses in 2013/14:
-
- DipHE Operating Department Practice/(Rodp)
- BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene And Dental Therapy
- BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic)
- BSc (Hons) Radiography (Therapeutic)
You are able to apply for some funding from both the NHS and Student Finance England. For details of the funding available please see our NHS funded students page.
Once you accept a place on an NHS funded course the University will inform the NHS. They will then contact you via e-mail or letter inviting you to apply using their online system application. This is likely to be around four months before you are due to start the course.
To apply for the reduced rate of student loan you should apply online at Student Finance England and you are advised to apply for this as early as possible. When applying it is important that you read the questions carefully, and tick the box indicating that you are applying for an income-assessed NHS bursary. You will need to supply evidence of your NHS bursary at a later stage but do not wait for this before you apply for the loan. If the paperwork you receive from Student Finance England indicates any funding other than a maintenance loan of £2,324 please contact us for advice.

Forms will be available from April 2013.
Once you have returned this form you will then be sent an EU13B form to apply for the fee discount element of the University of Portsmouth Bursary. This form will ask for details of your household income so you may need your parent(s) to provide information and sign the form.

Continuing full-time undergraduates from England
If you started a full-time undergraduate course before 1 September 2013, and will be continuing full-time studies in 2013/14, you will need to reapply for your student funding.
If you receive funding that doesn’t depend on your household income (the tuition fee loan and basic maintenance loan), and wish to do the same for 2013/14, Student Finance England will simply send you a new letter of entitlement and declaration form that you will need to sign and return.
If you receive funding that does depend on your household income (for example a maintenance grant) you should reapply by logging in to your account at Student Finance England. Your parent(s) or partner will need to provide information about their income again, which they can do online as well.
If you are unable to reapply on line you can request a paper form from Student Finance England, or alternatively contact us and we can arrange to send you out a copy to download and print. The recommended deadline to reapply for funding is 28 June 2013. You can apply after this date but if you do you are not guaranteed to have any funding in place for the start of term.
Tuition fees for full-time continuing UK undergraduates in 2013/14 will be:
-
- £3,465 if you started your course before 1 September 2012
- £8,750 if you started your course after 1 September 2012
If you have any questions or need any help completing your reapplication contact us.
Please note: if you are normally a full-time student but will be repeating some credits on a part-time basis in 2013/14 you are still classed as a full-time student for student support purposes, and should reapply online as described above. You should not complete any part-time funding forms.
