University bursaries 2010/11
1. University of Portsmouth Bursary
This bursary is income-assessed so how much you may be eligible for will depend on a financial assessment. You may qualify for a bursary if you are being charged the full £3,290 fee in 2010/11 and your assessed household income is £32,000 or less for the year ending 5th April 2009. If you meet the criteria, the maximum available is:

This
University of Portsmouth Bursary is payable to full-time Home undergraduate students who start their course after 1st September 2006 and being charged £3,290 for tuition fees in 2010/11. - Please note that this bursary is not paid to students during any placement year or to NHS funded students in receipt of full fee support and an NHS bursary.
- You apply for this bursary along with the maintenance grant and student loans mentioned above (forms available from Student Finance England or from our Forms and Guides section.
- This bursary will be paid in two instalments direct to your bank account - December 2010 and May 2011
2. Local colleges bursary
This additional £300 annual bursary is not income-assessed. It is payable to eligible full-time Home & EU undergraduate and PGCE students who will be starting their course in 2010/11, who are applying from or have previously studied at an eligible local college and are being charged £3,290 tuition fees. The qualification(s) you gained or expect to gain at that college must contribute to you being awarded a place to study at the University. The current list of eligible local colleges is:
- Havant College
- Portsmouth College
- Isle of Wight College
- Highbury College
- St Vincent's College
- South Downs College
- Fareham College
- University of Portsmouth (if you obtained a Further Education qualification, for example an Access course)
- Carisbrooke High School, IoW
- Cowes High School, IoW
- Medina High School, IoW
- Ryde High School, IoW
- Sandown High School, IoW
- Oaklands Roman Catholic School
- Bay House School
You do not need to apply separately for this bursary but if you are concerned that we do not know you have studied at one of the local colleges, pleases contact bursary@port.ac.uk for further information. Please note this bursary is not available to NHS funded or sponsored students or to those on placement years paying reduced rate tuition fees.
3. Care leavers bursary
This additional £1,500 annual bursary is paid to full-time Home undergraduate students starting their course in 2010/11 who are, or have previously been looked after by any local authority.
The bursary is not income-assessed and you should apply via the Student Finance Centre. The Centre will be able to advise you about the additional financial and practical support available to 'care leavers' starting university. The final deadline for receipt of applications will be the end of April, subject to budget limitations.
4. Foyer Residents Bursary
This additional £1,500 annual bursary is paid to full-time Home undergraduate students who are, or have previously been a resident in a Foyer Federation. The bursary is not income-assessed and you should apply via the Student Finance Centre. The Centre will be able to advise you about the additional financial and practical support available to Foyer residents starting university. The final deadline for receipt of applications will be the end of April, subject to budget limitations.
5. Other bursaries
Sports bursaries have been established to support students who are studying at the University and competing on the national/ international stage and to help them maintain a balanced lifestyle and meet the challenges they are faced with.
