Drinks and light snacks on the viewing decks of the iconic Spinnaker Tower are generously sponsored by GEA. A chance to catch-up with old work colleagues and acquaintances and take in the amazing view across Portsmouth, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.

Thursday 6th July 2017

Champagne reception on the top deck (weather permitting) with conference dinner on the gun deck of HMS Warrior.  ‌

The evening will commence on the deck of HMS Warrior with fizz and canapés – a conference group photo will also be taken at this stage. We will then move down below to the impressive gun deck where we will be served a three course menu (meat and vegetarian options available) with wine and cheese. There will also be a pay bar for those who may want to drink beer or sprits. More details to follow.

Hog roast in Ravelin Park

The Engineering Geology Geotechnics conference day will end on a high with a relaxed summer evening in Ravelin Park to chat and socialise with friends and colleagues. There will be sun downers, music, local craft ales and wine, Hampshire Hog Roast with salads or a vegetarian/vegan option of Paella.

Live music will be provided buy “Brigands Brew” with John Whalley on the cajun and bodhran drums playing contemporary and traditional folk and rock.

Spinning the discs from 1967 to present will be DJ Frank and DJ Jane Anna.

Dress code is casual and we hope that delegates and partners will attend this event. We have kept the cost to a minimum of £20 per head plus VAT. 

Saturday 8th July 2017

A day of excellent geology and landslides with some light humour and a good lunch. We will visit the classic coastal landslides of the undercliff on the southern coast of the Isle of Wight with world leading experts Dr Eddie Bromhead (landslides) and Prof Andy Gale (stratigraphy). Travel will be by Hovercraft from Portsmouth seafront to Ryde and then by coach to the south coast. Lunch will be provided at the historic Buddle Inn at Niton.

Day Programme

Pick up light pack lunch from Reese Hall then be ready to take the 11am hovercraft from Portsmouth to Ryde then coach to Gore Cliff – 5min walk from Reese to the Hovercraft

Dr Eddie Bromhead: St Catherine’s Point landslide and the undercliff

3pm: lunch in the Buddle Inn in Niton

4:30pm: coach to White Cliff Bay

Prof Andy Gale on the Stratigraphy of the London Clay Formation at Whitecliff Bay

7pm: coach back to Ryde to catch the 8pm hovercraft back to Portsmouth

If you need to get back to Portsmouth early then the coach can take you back to Ryde after dropping off at Whitecliff Bay
