Professional Practice Units

All of our undergraduate students have the option in their second year of taking a 20–credit unit to help them develop their employability. Currently there are two options available: Professional Experience and Student Enterprise.

Professional Experience

This Unit provides students with the opportunity to gain credit from paid and unpaid work, volunteering, research placements, internships and other work-related learning. Students are supported through workshops and tutorials to develop high quality CVs, interview skills, online portfolios and employability skills.  Some of the work-experience undertaken by students taking this unit includes: 

  • TV Audience Management on Britain’s Got Talent and The Million Pound Drop
  • Warner Brothers Film Studios operations assistant
  • Freelance sports photographer
  • Onset P.A. with Afroasian Film Production Company in Jamaica
  • Art Teacher at Havant Sixth Form College
  • Radio DJ
  • Startup a live audio and lighting company

Student Enterprise

This Unit introduces students to the reality of setting up and running a small business - but this is not a business theory course. By the end of the Unit, all participating students will have set up and run a small business for real! There really is no better way to learn about business startup than doing it for yourself. Student Enterprise businesses have included:

  • Independent games companies
  • Online shops
  • T-shirt design and production companies
  • Book publishing
  • Web design agencies
  • Mobile app development
  • Clothes design business

Current first year students will be able to choose one of these units during the options selection process at the start of teaching block 2.
