Biography

After many years working in the photographic industry (local newspaper, photographic studio and processing houses alongside my freelance work) I started working at the University in the early 1990s.

I have been managing for the photographic workshops for over 15 years and am also responsible for the day-to-day running of the Faculty equipment loan store.

Moving to the University from the commercial sector had a noticeable effect on my personal work, which is now firmly based within the ‘fine art’ genre rather than the editorial/advertising imagery that I used to create.

Some of my early work forms part of the ‘Rock Shots’ exhibition currently being held at Portsmouth Guildhall. This is a group show of music photography spanning 50 years of Portsmouth’s music scene and is part of Portsmouth Cultural Trust’s permanent Access All Areas exhibition.

Teaching Responsibilities

All the technical support team within the workshops teach students on a daily basis and I gained my Certificate in Education to support this as well as my part-time teaching on pre-degree Foundation and Access courses.

Part of my current responsibility is to provide specific photographic workshops for under graduate and graduate courses within the Faculty, including BA Photography and MA Fine Art.

As Health and Safety co-ordinator for the School of Art and Design I offer advice to staff and students as part of the Universities commitment to safe working practices.
