Careers Spotlight events

The Placement and Internship Centre schedule a series of talks, presentations and careers events that provide information about future career options as well as an insight from alumni and professionals. It is never too early to start thinking about what you will do after your degree! We also provide tailored sessions for students who are considering taking, or have secured, a Placement Year.

  • Careers in PR and Social Media 
    Careers in PR and Social Media, delivered by FutureRising. Key industry speakers from the PR and Social Media sectors will talk about their own experiences in the industry, their journey from education to industry and provide top tips for your future career. This will be followed by a live student challenge, team presentations and a winners announcement.
  • Work & Study with Languages Fair 
    Language skills are in demand in a wide range of sectors, particularly in business, teaching, diplomacy, charity, development work and media. Opportunities exist here in the UK and internationally. At this fair you will receive information on some of the options available to you including working in China, Erasmus+ and Social Enterprise. The event will comprise information stands and a series of presentations.
  • Graduate Schemes - Enterprise Rent-A-Car
    What is a graduate scheme and how does it apply to students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences? The Graduate Team from Enterprise Rent-A-Car will provide information on how graduate schemes work, what employers look for in applicants and tips for success in the selection process.   • Pompey in the Community
    Pompey in the Community are an independent charitable trust affiliated to Portsmouth Football Club. They provide coaching and education to young people, including the National Citizen Service (NCS). Find out how you could take part as a Team Leader, to lead, inspire and develop a team of 16 to 17 year-olds through the NCS programme. This year the team are also supported by a Placement Year student.
  • Routes into Criminal Justice Fair
    At this information fair you will get the opportunity to meet and network with organisations and charities working within the criminal justice sector. Organisations include Hampshire Constabulary, Ministry of Defence Police, Nacro, Active Communities Network and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service. Placement year and volunteering roles will be available for you to discuss.
  • The7Stars
    The7Stars are the UK’s most successful and largest independent media agency with clients that include Nintendo, Ministry of Sound, Save the Children and Warner Music Group. In this interactive workshop you will create a media plan with the support of a team from The7Stars. You will also find out about the company’s placement and graduate opportunities.

The majority of sessions require students to book a ticket via Eventbrite as sessions have limited capacity. We encourage students to book as early as possible for all events that they wish to attend. (Please note, if we have low numbers booked for events that involve external speakers we may be forced to cancel the event to prevent a wasted journey for the delegates).
