SFEC Close-Down Periods

SFEC Close-Down Periods

SFEC reviews applications throughout the academic year in accordance with the response times given on the procedures page.

Additionally, SFEC is closed for routine applications from 1200 Friday 27 July 2018 reopening on Monday 3 September 2018. This affects new applications made from 6 July 2018 onwards, and resubmissions from 16 July 2018 onwards (see below).

New applications received by 1200 Friday 6 July 2018 will be reviewed before the close-down period (by 27 July 2018).

New applications submitted after 1200 Friday 6 July 2018 will have a review period spanning the close-down period, so the 1st ethical review might not be received until September eg the 15-working day review period for an application submitted on Monday 16 July 2018 is Monday 10 September 2018.

Applications resubmitted in response to a previous ethical review, or notifications of substantial amendment, have a 7 working-day response time, therefore such applications received by Wednesday 18 July 2018 will be reviewed before the close-down period (by Friday 27 July 2017).

Resubmissions or amendments submitted after Wednesday 18 July 2018 will have a 7-working day review period spanning the close-down period, and may not report until September 2018.

If an investigator requires an application to be considered during the summer close-down period, or outside the timescales given above, then the application should be forwarded to ethics-sci@port.ac.uk as usual. A written explanation as to why an expedited review is required should be forwarded with the application. The application will be considered by the duty chair, and if sufficient members are able to review the proposal an offer of review may be made. However, given that SFEC members also have their own summer research or other work activities, and commonly take much of their leave in summer, the regular response times are not guaranteed.
