I joined the University in October 2001 and I am currently the Associate Dean (Academic) responsible for assuring the quality and standards of the academic provision within the Science Faculty. I am also a principal lecturer in sport psychology in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science. Following the completion of my BSc (Hons) Physiology and Sports Science degree at the University of Glasgow, I completed an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology and PhD at the University of Chichester. My PhD thesis examined 'The Impact of Butler and Hardy's (1992) Performance Profiling Technique in Sport'. I am a BPS Chartered and HCPC Accredited Sport Psychologist and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I am currently involved in teaching sport psychology across all undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am also actively involved in supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in the area of sport psychology.
My recent research interests have centred on the psychological changes that occur in extreme environment endurance sports. These include examining the psychology of single handed sailing during the Velux 5 Oceans and Vendee Globe races, single handed ocean rowing, and Antarctic explorations sponsored by the Fuch's Foundation and British Armed Services. I also continue to research the effectiveness of performance profiling within sport settings.
