Portsmouth is a top-ranking university!
Top 50 in the Guardian’s 2017 league table
For the second year running The University of Portsmouth has risen six places in the Guardian University Guide, an independent ranking of quality in higher education.
Portsmouth is now 43rd, having risen from 49th in last year’s guide. It was ranked 55th in 2015.
The University’s Sports Science courses were ranked number two in the country with 100 per cent of students satisfied overall with their course. Courses in Health Professions and Chemical Engineering were also in the top ten and courses in a number of other subject areas including Psychology, Pharmacy, Criminology and Economics were all in the top 20.
Portsmouth a 'top 10' modern university
The University is one of the top ten modern universities in the UK, according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.
Portsmouth is also in the top ten of universities in the south-east and in the top 20 for teaching quality.
The guide is published annually and ranks all UK universities according to a number of criteria including student satisfaction, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, service and facilities spend and university dropout rates.
Portsmouth in top 2% of world’s universities
The University of Portsmouth is ranked in the top 500 universities in the world in the most recent Times Higher Education World University Rankings published in 2015.
The independent rankings place Portsmouth in the top two per cent of universities worldwide and among the best in Europe.
Top 150 under 50
The University of Portsmouth is, for the second consecutive year, also ranked in the Times Higher Education Top 150 under 50, a list of the top modern universities in the world under 50 years old. The prestigious ranking provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential. Portsmouth is in the top half of the 25 UK universities in the list.
A top university for student satisfaction
The National Student Survey 2015 ranked the University of Portsmouth at 89 per cent, higher than the UK national average for student satisfaction.
It is the ninth successive year Portsmouth has out-performed the sector average with our students this year rating us above the national average of 86 per cent.
The independent survey asks students across the UK to give feedback on the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.
Two subject areas achieved 100 per cent satisfaction – Nursing, which incorporates Dental Academy courses, and Physics and Astronomy. Sports Science courses were also rated highly, achieving a 99 per cent satisfaction score.
A further six subject areas scored 95 per cent or above for overall satisfaction: Drama; English Studies; Law; Mathematics and Statistics; Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy; and Physical Geography and Environmental Science.
