For supervisors

Best Practice in the Selection & Admission of PGR students - New online version

The Graduate School is pleased to announce that this workshop is now available online for research degree supervisors. This online resource provides a flexible training opportunity for supervisors unable to attend the on-campus workshop. Successful completion of this training is equivalent to attending the local workshop session and will be counted towards your staff development record on the iTrent system.

This resource provides supervisors with an overview of the selection and admission processes for postgraduate research (PGR) students including; the general admissions processes, conducting interviews and making offers to students, and the admissions requirements for international PGR students.

In order to support potential supervisors, provide a more consistent experience for PhD applicants and to provide greater clarity of the expected roles for both supervisors and students, every PhD selection panel will need to have at least two members who have undergone this training (QAA, 2012).
