Arrival in the UK

Please note that the International Office only offers an Airport Pickup Service for September Orientation.

This is not available for January Orientation.

Arriving at London Heathrow Airport

We recommend that you use National Express coaches. They run directly from your arrival terminal to Portsmouth Bus Station, where you can get a taxi to your final destination in the city.

Arriving at Gatwick Airport

We recommend that you take the direct train from Gatwick Airport to Portsmouth & Southsea Railway Station. This will cost approximately £20. Please check the National Rail website for the latest travel times and fare information or go to the ticket desk at the airport train station. You can also take a coach from your arrival terminal to Portsmouth Harbour 'The Hard' Bus Station. Full information and timetable on the National Express website.

Arriving by other transport

If you are coming to Portsmouth through an airport other than Heathrow/Gatwick or are coming by ferry or coach, please refer to the travel advice on the Getting Here section of our website. Once you are in Portsmouth, please come to the International Office, Nuffield Centre. Try to organise your travel to arrive in Portsmouth between these hours: Monday to Thursday: 0830-1700 Friday: 0830-1600.

If you have booked University Halls of Residence accommodation, please go to your accommodation first to check in. A list of Halls telephone numbers can be found here.

Taxis

Do not take an airport taxi as this could cost approximately £200. Arriving after opening hours

If you arrive in Portsmouth after opening hours: 0830-1700 Monday to Thursday, 0830-1600 Friday, you should go to your accommodation for the night and come to the International Office in Nuffield Centre the next morning to receive any help or information you need. If you are arriving before the date you can move into your University accommodation, or if you are intending to find private accommodation, you will need to book a local hotel or guest house for your arrival.
