Your University of Portsmouth experience

University of Portsmouth (UoP) was the only University in the UK and Europe who offered specialisation in Corporate Governance with not only an accreditation from ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) but also gives an additional degree of Grad ICSA along with the LLM. Moreover, the modules, seminars and assignments concentrate on the practical application of knowledge rather than theoretical approach. Additionally, the lecturers are experts in the field having doctorates and also have worked extensively in the field.

The class size is small which gives more scope for discussions with the lecturers. The lecturers are friendly and ensure that no one is left behind on understanding the coursework. The materials provided satisfy the course needs and additional works are also made available in the library for deeper understanding of the subject.

The tutors are approachable and they take special interest in the student’s placements and go out of their way to help in such cases. My tutor arranged a mock interview session just for me to help me prepare for my actual interviews and also assured that if required they will also arrange a mock panel interview. This kind of support is not available in any other University and it gives the student confidence to perform better in the course. Other facilities viz., Mentoring Scheme - where the student is connected to a Mentor in their field of interest as a guide, CV guidance at the Purple Door and by the Tutors & Mentors, and workshops to build skills necessary for Masters students are all important which provide a good support system to nurture our growth within the University.

The University explores every avenue to ensure that the students get the best experience at the University, not only academically but socially as well, evident from the number of events the independent departments hold almost every week.

What makes Portsmouth unique?

Portsmouth is a welcoming city, almost as if it was built for students. It has a variety of options for everyone, be it clubbing, shopping, a variety of eateries offering varied cuisines.

The city itself is small which makes it easier to walk around from any corner and nothing is ever too far. The best part is the University is merged with the city of Portsmouth and, coupled with the beach, gives it a homely feel. The number of open and green spaces also make it pleasant. The weather is never too cold for us to go out and a walk along the beach rejuvenates you.
