Hong Kong and Macau
TB Clearance Certificate
Since 31 December 2013, students from Hong Kong and Macau planning to study in the UK must obtain a TB Clearance Certificate before applying for the Tier 4 Student Visa. We recommend that students obtain these as soon as possible to avoid delays with the visa application process.
This will affect students applying for September 2014 entry. TB Clearance Certificates are issued by UKVI-approved clinics. Full information can be found on the UKVI website.
Please contact the University of Portsmouth Alumni to become a member and contact with fellow Portsmouth graduates and academics for networking and to share your stories after graduating.
The University of Portsmouth will be accepting students who hold the HKDSE Diploma. This will be based on UCAS tariff point equivalency, including subject specific requirements where appropriate. The qualification is recognized as comparable to the UK GCE A Level.
The UCAS tariff value for HKDSE is as follows:
|5**||n/a||To be allocated with further evidence after the first administration of the HKDSE examination in 2012|
|5*||130||Between Grades A and A* in the 2010 GCE A Level examination|
|5||120||Comparable to Grade A in the 2010 GCE A Level examination|
|4||80||Comparable to Grade C in the 2010 GCE A Level examination|
|3||40||Comparable to Grade E in the 2010 GCE A Level examination|
We accept HKDSE English in lieu of IELTS. Applicants will need to achieve a minimum overall score of 4 with no component lower than 3 (as an equivalent to IELTS 6.0). Please note that this will vary depending on your chosen course.
|Level||Compulsory Part||Extended Part||Remarks|
|5**||n/a||n/a||To be allocated with further evidence after the first administration of the HKDSE examination in 2012|
- 130 points (60+70) for 5* in both compulsory and extended parts - between Grades A and A* in the 2010 GCE A Level examination
More information regarding the entry points required for any specific course can be found on our website by searching the course information (click on the 'Courses' button above).
If you do not have the required entry points, you will need to enrol on a foundation pathway programme. Our Engineering foundation BEng (Hons) Engineering and Technology is delivered in our Faculty of Technology. Foundation programmes in all other subjects are delivered by our pathway provider, International College Portsmouth (ICP).
We offer various opportunities for students currently studying or graduated from Higher Diplomas and Associate Degrees from Community Colleges to gain advanced entry onto our undergraduate courses. For more details please contact one of our local representatives in Hong Kong (listed below) or email email@example.com
Our International Officers travel to Hong Kong regularly for Education Fairs, visits to agents and other events. These are great opportunities to speak to us about applying to study at the University of Portsmouth and it would be great to meet you there!

International Alumni Referral Awards
We know that the best promotion is 'word of mouth'. We also know that if students have a good experience at Portsmouth, they will tell their friends, family and colleagues - and sometimes, as a result, one of those people decides to come and study at the University of Portsmouth. We want to formally recognise this assistance in recommending that person to the University of Portsmouth.
The International Alumni Referral Award (IARA) scheme is for current and former University of Portsmouth students who refer an applicant to study here. We reward the current/former student with £400 if their application results in a registration.
How does the scheme work?
Please use the following form:
Please download and complete the International Alumni Referral Award Form above. You must ensure that the International Alumni Referral Award Form is attached to the online application when it is submitted. When you are submitting the online application, please select IARA from the agent drop-down menu and attach a copy of the completed IARA Form with the 'Supported Documents Area'.
Please note: we cannot link the application to you after we have received the application and it has been input into the University's Admissions System.
If you have any questions about this scheme, please email us.
