Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Department of Accounting, Law & Management Science, and will tell you a little of our work.

This is a large and diverse department, comprising specialists in the areas of Accounting, Business Information Systems, Law and Management Science. We currently have 38 full-time academic members of staff in these four areas. We are a strong vibrant department, which is evidenced by continuous developments both in curricular activities and supporting research and consultancy. Our performance in the recent research assessment exercise of grade 4 puts us at the top of the Business Schools in the new universities and is an indication of national excellence with some international recognition.

We have a growing portfolio of degrees, which provides continuing study opportunities in the major areas of Accounting, Finance, Law Project and Quality Management.

We have strong links with the professions, industry and commerce. Our family of Accounting degrees are accredited by the professional accounting bodies giving significant exemptions to those who subsequently wish to continue after their degree to qualify professionally as accountants. In addition we have excellent links with the Law Society and the Bar for our qualifying Law degree. Our Employer Liaison Group provides an outstanding link for all our new developments and ensures that we are providing relevant degrees with an emphasis on employability after graduation. Our new e-Business degree has benefited from these developments and is an exciting and challenging degree for those who wish to be at the cutting edge of e-Commerce.

We have a growing portfolio of Postgraduate Degrees, which provides continuing study opportunities in the major areas of Accounting, Finance, Law Project and Quality Management. We provide opportunities for Continuing Professional Development for managers in Industry and are flexible in allowing the opportunity to study single units, which are of interest to those who wish to expand their knowledge without commitment to a full Course.

Our staff is friendly and has an 'open door policy'. We are happy to discuss any queries you may have and provide opportunities to visit us to enable you to choose the most appropriate course for you and to help you decide at which university you may wish to study.
