Boundary Disputes

Boundary disputes can be costly, acrimonious and at times almost war-like. This CPD seminar will explain the key issues involved in disputes. The resolution of disputes will be discussed within the need for accurate evidence.

The course includes:

  • Relevance of a detailed knowledge of maps, aerial photography and the significance of local features (such as fences, walls, hedges, ditches etc.)
  • Role of independent expert evidence is obtained so that the property owner can move forward with
  • certainty
  • Measuring existing boundary features and then comparing them with long-gone features (through aerial photographic records), deeds, LR (Land Registry) data and other documentation
  • High-quality reports in accordance with the CPR (Civil Procedure Rules) and regularly undergo cross examination in the courts
  • Role of boundary plans

David Powell qualified as a Land Surveyor in the Royal Engineers in 1967 having attended the School of Military Survey. After practising as a land surveyor for 15 years, David established his own firm in Ringwood, Hampshire, and, in the past 34 years, he and his firm have operated as surveyors and consultants throughout Europe and further afield.
