CEMAST and the Daedalus Enterprise Zone
The Solent Enterprise Zone stems from a decommissioned military airfield formerly known as HMS Daedalus. It was designated as one of 24 national enterprise zones in 2012 by government to support businesses and create economic growth. The Solent Enterprise is led by a partnership of institutions focussing on advanced manufacturing within the marine, aerospace and aviation sectors. Within this Zone the Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Training (CEMAST) has been created by Fareham College supported by funding Partners of: Hampshire County Council; the Skills Funding Agency; the Regional Growth Fund and the Local Enterprise Partnership.
This course covers the following:
- a guided tour of the CEMAST facility
- an overview of the Solent Enterprise Zone
- an explanation of the strategic funding
- the early vision for CEMAST
- development issues
- construction successes
- property management issues
- further developments on the enterprise zone
Steve Dingsdale is the Assistant Principal at Fareham College and Managing Director of CEMAST Steve is an experienced senior leader in Further Education who has developed facilities and a number of educational programmes in complex and challenging working environments.
