PgCert

PgCert Occupational Health and Safety Management

The University of Portsmouth has offered courses in Health and Safety to serve industry and professional needs in the UK and abroad since 1976. In 1996, we successfully launched our distance learning programme. The Postgraduate Certificate programme consists of two, 30 credit units which require approximately 600 hours of study, by distance learning, over the course of one year.

The course is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and students who successfully complete the PgCert are eligible to apply for graduate IOSH membership.

For further information visit the PgCert Occupational Health And Safety Management course page.

Entry qualifications

There are no standard entry qualifications as every application is assessed on its own merit. Applicants could hold a degree or equivalent, however other qualifications such as HNDs and Foundation Degrees may also be accepted, particularly if supported by several years of relevant post-qualification experience in relevant posts with a degree of responsibility. Applicants are usually working at a professional level.

All students who successfully complete the PgCert are eligible to apply for direct entry to Stage 2 of our MSc courses in Occupational Health and Safety Management and Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management.

Applicants should have a minimum health and safety qualification equivalent to level 3 with relevant professional experience.

All students who successfully complete the PgCert can then apply for direct entry to Stage 2 of our MSc courses:
