Greta Friggens
Faculty Librarian for Creative and Cultural Industries
Who are you and what do you do here?

My name is Greta and I am Faculty Librarian for Creative and Cultural Industries, which means that I look after the library and information needs of students and staff and researchers within the following areas:
- Portsmouth School of Architecture
- School of Art, Design and Media
- School of Creative Arts, Film and Media
- School of Creative Technologies
- Portsmouth Centre for Enterprise
- Institute of Industrial Research
You can usually find me on the second floor of the University Library, but I recommend that you contact me in advance, if you are making a special visit:
If your enquiry is urgent and I am not available, other library staff may be able to help, ask at the second floor subject enquiries desk in the University Library or telephone (023) 9284 3244
I am a student what can you do to help me?
I can help you search for and find the information that you need to successfully undertake your assignments by:
- arranging formal induction and teaching sessions with your tutors
- providing the opportunity for you to book appointments with me, either individually or in small groups, if you want some extra help with finding or using information resources
- contributing to a range of library workshops on specific information skills.
Can I recommend books and other library resources?
Yes. Let your tutor have the details of any items you would like to recommend to the library and ask her/him to send them to me. However, remember that you can use the Interlibrary loan service, to quickly obtain most items that we don?t have in the library.
I am a member of staff what can you do to help me?
Through discussion and attendance at Faculty meetings I hope to gain an awareness of your teaching, learning and research requirements. For your students I can:
- develop an appropriate range of information resources in a variety of formats
- arrange formal induction and teaching sessions, fitting into the curriculum wherever is appropriate
- provide individual or small group tutorials for those experiencing information problems
- provide learning materials for you to include on WebCT.
I would be interested in hearing about your own learning and research requirements and can:
- guide you to appropriate resources to facilitate your research
- help you to make the most of those resources, by using advanced searching methods.
I am a researcher what can you do to help me?
I am keen to hear about your research and in return I can:
- guide you to appropriate resources to facilitate your research
- help you to make the most of those resources, by using advanced searching methods
- advise on accessing the materials of other libraries.
Whatever your capacity within the university, I am very happy to meet with you to discuss your information needs. If you are a member of staff and want to find out what information you can access from your own PC, I would be very happy to come and find your office or, of course, you would be most welcome to come over to the library and meet me here.
Why not book an appointment now! I look forward to meeting you soon.
