Mobile Phone Policy

Library Regulations (2e) ban mobile phone use but as part of our 'Where’s your zone' experiment, we are relaxing some of the restrictions in the Green (Group Study) and Yellow (Quiet) Zones from September 2007.
These are the new rules on mobile phone use:
- All users of the Library
- You should switch your phone to SILENT MODE before you enter the Library
- If you enter a Green (Group Study) Zone
- Your phone should stay in silent mode and you are allowed to make and take calls and text in our Green Zones
- If you enter a Yellow (Quiet) Zone
- Your phone should stay in silent mode and texting is permitted, but you are not allowed to make or take calls in our Yellow Zones
- If you enter a Red (Silent) Zone
- You should turn your phone off completely. No mobile phone use at all is allowed in our Red Zones
What will happen if you don't comply with the above rules:
- If your phone rings or you are heard speaking on your phone in a zone where this is not allowed, you will be asked to switch it off IMMEDIATELY. Staff will wait until you have done this.
- If you fail to do the above your name will be taken together with your course and Campus/Library card number.
- These details will be passed on to the University Librarian who will decide whether to take further action. You will be informed by letter if this happens.
- All letters from the University Librarian will be copied to your Head of Department.
- Repeated misuse of mobile phones may result in further disciplinary action.
