Paying Library Fines

You need to pay your fines before you can have any new library items issued to you.

  • You can pay in person by cash, credit/debit card or cheque accompanied by a cheque card.
  • You can post a cheque, made payable to ‘University of Portsmouth Library’ to the Library. Please include a return address, so we can forward your receipt to you.
  • You can pay by credit/debit card via the University webpay. Select ‘Library charges’ when asked “What would you like to pay for?”. The Library is advised of your payment by webpay the next banking day (Monday if you pay Friday, Saturday or Sunday).

Please use webpay only if:

  • You have renewed your loans and you are paying an outstanding charge. If you haven’t renewed your loans , the fines will continue to go up.
  • You are not coming into the Library yourself prior to the next banking day. Don’t forget that the payment to the Library is not immediate – there is a delay to the next banking day.

Don’t forget that you can continue to renew your existing loans in person or by phone, even if you have fines outstanding. You won’t be able to renew online with outstanding fines.

If there are any extenuating circumstances that lead to your incurring fines, please ask to speak to one of the senior members of staff at the Issue Desk in confidence.
