Where's Your Zone

We want all students to have a great place to study and research and we realise that what suits one student doesn?t always suit another. Therefore we have zones within the library where different activities are permitted.

General Behaviour

  • No smoking within the library or around the entrance area as indicated on the exterior of the building.
  • No alcohol on library premises
  • All users have a right to study without unnecessary disturbance or distraction
  • All users have a responsibility to respect the rights of others (both staff and students)
  • Carry your campus card with you at all times and produce it on request
  • Handle all library materials with care
  • Place litter in bins provided
zone - silent

The red zone is the silent study area, ideal for students who wish to work with no disturbance:

  • Mobile phones are not to be used
  • Laptops may be used
  • Personal music players are not allowed
  • Food is not to be consumed
  • Conversation is not permitted
  • Bottled cold drinks only
zone - quiet

The yellow zone is the quiet study area, ideal for students preferring minimal disturbance:

  • Mobile phones must be on silent; only texting is permitted
  • Laptops may be used
  • Personal music is allowed, but should not be audible to others.
  • Food is not to be consumed
  • Whispered conversation is permitted
  • Bottled cold drinks only
zone - social

The green zone is the groups study area, ideal for students who wish to work together:

  • Mobile phone calls are allowed but your phone must be on silent
  • Laptops may be used
  • Personal music is allowed, but should not be audible to others
  • Cold food may be consumed, but please throw away your rubbish
  • Conversation at moderate levels is allowed
  • Bottled cold drinks only
