The Educational Recording Agency (ERA)
The ERA licenses educational establishments to undertake copying of off-air radio and television broadcasts for use for teaching purposes. All UK terrestrial broadcasts recorded after 1 August 1989 are covered within the licence which allows recordings to be made for teaching purposes, provided that the recording is clearly labelled with the date and title of the recording and the statement “this recording be used for educational purposes only”. In addition, the licence allows further copying of programmes recorded under the licence and allows the compilation of extracts of material for teaching purposes.
