University Web proxy

Web proxy setup for Off-Campus users (webcache)

The web proxy service allows you to browse the Internet as if you are on campus. It enables easy access to online resources such as databases, journals and exam papers, and also reduces the need for logging in.

To use this service, you will need to log in using your University computer account.

Please note, a few resources such as Ebrary will still ask you to authenticate using your University username and password.

How to set the service up

You must be using a stand alone computer. It is likely that networked office machines will not be able to use this service

You need to configure your web browser to use the following settings:

  • Proxy server address: wwwcache.port.ac.uk
  • Port number: 81
  • Authentication: network username and password.
Please view the setup instructions for these browsers and follow carefully.
