European Documentation Centres (EDCs)
European Documentation Centres have been established by the European Commission in universities and other institutions of higher education to promote study and research on the European Communities and European integration. The University of Portsmouth has been an EDC since 1973.
EDC status confers entitlement to free copies of material published by the Official Publications Office of the European Communities and privileged access to certain EU databases.
The Portsmouth EDC
The EDC contains a variety of material produced by the Official Publications Office and other institutions and agencies of the European Union, including:
- Treaties (primary legislation)
- Secondary legislation (Directives, Regulations etc.) published in the Official Journal of the EC (L)
- Information and notices published in the Official Journal of the EC (C)
- General Report on the activities of the EU (annual)
- Bulletin of the EU (monthly)
- Commission (COM) documents
- Books, reports and periodicals giving details of EU policies and activities
The EDC belongs to the Europe Direct Information network
