We suggest the following websites as a useful starting point for Finance and Banking students.

  • Association of Investment Companies site
    Includes monthly performance statistics for UK investment and venture capital trusts
  • Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
    Fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks. Site has a lot of research papers and the BIS quarterly review. Links to the Basel Committee on banking supervision
  • Bank of England
    The Bank of England's website. Links to other central banks, international organizations, and statistical sources. There is also a What's New section with news on legislation, regulations and banking issues.
  • BBA- British Bankers Association
    Voice of the industry but not very many free publications. Does include Banking Code.
  • British Venture Capital Association
    Good source of research and data on investment in companies including private equity. Also guides to investing in Europe
  • Building Societies AssociationTrade group site which does include key statistics in Excel and PDF format.
  • Central bank websites
  • KPMG
    A UK leading provider of professional services including audit, tax, financial and risk advisory. Website includes Building Societies Database ranking financial performance and a benchmarking survey of bank
  • London Stock Exchange
    Includes data, rules and regulations
  • Options Industry Council
    The Options Industry Council site from the USA is a great source of information about options. There are video and audio podcasts as well as text pages.
  • Pensions Institute
    Research and reports from the Pensions Institute based at Birkbeck college
  • Trustnet
    News research and performance data for unit trusts
  • USIF
    The sustainable investment and finance association. Membership association promoting responsible investment – site includes policy submissions and responses to official reviews
  • World Federation of Exchanges
    51 stock exchanges with links to the exchanges and including Monthly Statistics with price index levels at month-end, the share and bond turnovers in value, the market capitalization, the number of listed companies, as well as volatility and turnover ratios. Also futures and options trends and derivatives market surveys
  • Yahoo Finance
    Lots of free market and company data and news plus consumer information to help you compare finance products
