Human Resources - Suggested Websites

We suggest the following websites as a useful starting point for Human Resources students.

  • ACAS [Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service]
    Advice, codes of practice information, some free publications or summaries
  • CIPD – Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
    the professional body for HR managers. Some content is restricted to members but there are useful factsheets giving overviews and suggestions for further reading and surveys on labour market and HR outsourcing trends
  • Eurofound
    a tripartite agency from the EU "provides expertise on living and working conditions, industrial relations and managing change". Lots of sectoral and country reports. Includes The European Industrial Relations Observatory (EIRO)
  • Industrial Law Society
    "the leading forum for debate and understanding of employment law and its application" – downloadable papers on topics in industrial and employment law
  • Society for Human Resource Management
    USA professional body – much of the content is only available to members but there are free overviews of HR topics, some glossaries, webcasts and research reports
  • Industrial Law Society
    "the leading forum for debate and understanding of employment law and its application" – downloadable papers on topics in industrial and employment law
  • Institute for Employment Studies (IES)
    free summaries of reports plus full-text of opinion pieces from this independent centre for research and consultancy in work and HR issues
  • UK WON
    "a network of institutions, practitioners and individuals researching and developing new ways of organising work to meet the competitive challenges of contemporary economic, technological and cultural change". Lots of useful-looking resources in their Knowledge and other sections on topics such as resilience during change, flexible working, etc.
  • Work Foundation
    has some useful reports on topics such as "Quality people management for quality outcomes" and "Leading for high performance"

  • 658.3 is the start of the main HR section.

The shelf-end guides will help you with the numbers for aspects of HR but you will find lots on the labour market and employment conditions in the 331s, employment law in 344.4101 and organizational behaviour at 302.35 and 658.402 and business psychology at 158.7
