Marketing, Advertising and Sales - Suggested Websites

We suggest the following websites as a useful starting point for Marketing, Advertising and Sales students.

  • Advertising Association
is a "federation of trade bodies and organisations representing the advertising and promotional marketing industries". Good set of links to trade associations, regulators, and other bodies that have connections with advertising plus AA policy documents for UK and EU issues
  • Advertising resources
links from the University of Iowa. Bias towards the USA but these links are reviewed
  • Advertising Standards Authority
Advertising codes, a 5 year archive of adjudications of complaints about advertising and survey of advertisers compliance with the codes. Links to other national bodies looking after consumers
  • Advertising World
This is a huge set of links by category on all things advertising, but there is a distinct US bias and the site could be better if the links had been reviewed and content described. On the same site under “Resources” you will find an advertising glossary, some famous US advertising slogans and advertising quotations
  • BARB (Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board)
gives topline viewing figures for TV
  • Brand republic
is a website which features unique content as well as content from several trade magazines – Campaign, Marketing, MediaWeek and PRWeek, so good for industry news. Some of these magazines can be cross-searched within Business Source Premier alongside content from other publishers
  • Brandchannel.com
Contains features, papers, and debates on current hot topics in brands and branding plus a glossary of branding
  • Marketer’s Portal from ZenithOptimedia
about 5,000 links, categorized without description but with indications as to whether site is US, UK or Europe-based
  • National Readership Survey [NRS]
Top-line estimates of UK readers newspapers and consumer magazines, by social class and gender
  • Outdoor Advertising Association
useful facts and figures, research and case studies on outdoor advertising, which includes billboards, bus stops, buses, etc.
  • RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research)
    topline radio listening figures
  • UR The Brand
for students, sponsored by the Institute of Direct Marketing. Case studies, competitions, advice on getting jobs in the industry
