IT Suite

There are computers in many locations within the School of Art, Design and Media, ranging from single machines dedicated to particular work, to large groups for teaching purposes.

Eldon Building

The School has an open access IT workshop located on the first floor of the Eldon Building (Room 1.120).

The suite has 65 Macs computers and 22 PCs. There is also one iMac and one PC with a supportive chair and adjustable desk, additional scanners, capture camera, keyboards and mice for students with visual impairments or other disabilities.

Three teaching workshops; each have 14 Macs and one data projector. When not in use for teaching, the computers in them are available for general access.

During term-time, the suite is open from 8:00am-7:00pm Monday and Wednesday, 8:00am-5:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:00am-4:00pm Fridays. During term breaks opening times are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday.

Booking sheets are provided for students to book a computer for a maximum of two hours per day.

Portland Building

This is the large teaching suite for the Faculty of Cultural and Creative Industries. There are Macs and PCs available for timetabled and individual use. (A booking system may be in operation during busy times.) A2 to AO colour printing is available here.

Printing

The workshop has four large printers; two A3/A4 black and white printers, one A3/A4 colour printer and one A1/A0 large format printer. There are also a number of smaller A3 and A4 Epson Photo printers for printing on special papers. Please see a technician for printing on Epson printers.

At the beginning of the academic year each student has an allowance of 100 A4 black and white prints (equivalent to 50 x A3 B/W). Once this has been consumed, students will have to pay for A4 and A3 B/W prints at a cost of 5p per A4 and 10p per A3.

Colour printing on the A3/A4 printer costs 25p per A4 and 50p per A3. This is also paid for from students print accounts. A machine is available in the main workshop for students to top-up their print allowance.

Colour printing on the Epson printers is also paid for per sheet at a cost of:

  • A4 matt: 50p
  • A3 matt: £1.00
  • A4 glossy: 80p
  • A3 glossy: £1.60

Students should contact the IT technical staff to pay for printing or to use the Epson printers.

Prices for the Large Format A1/A0 printer are displayed in the suite. This printer can print on other types of media such as tracing paper and Glossy. Please contact a technician to pay for large format printing.
