University Library

The University Library holds an extensive collection of art, media and design related materials, including:

  • Art and photography books
  • Electronic resources
  • Journals
  • DVDs

Most items relevant to your course are kept on the second floor. The library has a large computer suite, with access to word processing and other presentation packages, email and the internet.

Library inductions

The University Library offers introductory sessions on using the library facilities to all new students. You will be given a printed guide to the library with full details of the services and resources available to you, together with an introduction to using the computer catalogue for retrieving materials and to developing a research methodology. More detailed library research sessions will be organised by your tutors throughout your course.

Joining the library

Your student Campus Card is also your library card. You will need it to enter and exit the building as well as to borrow books. It is possible to borrow many materials by presenting your university Campus Card at the Issue Desk, in the library's foyer area. Find out about borrowing from the library by visiting www.port.ac.uk/library/essentials/borrowing.  You should ensure that you carry your campus card with you at all times, whilst you are on campus.

Health and safety

In the event of a fire, follow the instructions of the library staff who will direct you to the nearest emergency exit.
