Unit 420

Unit 420A

The unit is structured so as to introduce subjects that bring together society and culture and their influence on architectural theory within historical contexts.

Students are encouraged to explore subjects that influence, but fall outside the strict definitions of architecture such as humanities.

Weekly lectures highlight cultural themes and social issues that inform architecture and discuss the manner in which architecture relates to society and social change. Students are encouraged to carry out individual and group research into a selected and limited area of subjects covered.

Coursework is structured as to develop students' abilities to communicate complex issues through analytical investigation and written work.

Unit 420B

The unit builds on 420A to further introduce subjects that bring together society and culture and their influence on architectural theory within historical contexts.
