Careers panel

Careers Panel

The third ICJS Careers Panel took place on Wednesday 13th April and was well attended by students and graduates. Graduates of the BSc (Hons) Criminology And Criminal Justice degree over the last six years came back to the University in order to tell current students about:

  • The types of work they are currently involved with
  • How they applied for their positions
  • Information about the application and interview process
  • Advice and tips for current students about applying for jobs

All of our graduates who returned are employed in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Following on from lunch with the graduates and current staff within ICJS, the graduates conducted their presentations and then were available for the many individual questions that students had for them. Carly Keys (Probation Officer) let us know that a student who attended last year's Careers Panel was interested in joining the Probation Service, and spoke to Carly. Carly gave her some advice and information and the student, who has now graduated, was accepted onto the programme last year.

The graduates that attended this year were:

  • Alan Crisford (2001): Area Manager, Supporting Others Through Voluntary Action (SOVA), Wessex
  • Carly Keys (2003): Hampshire Probation
  • Alex Neville (2002): Hampshire Police Officer
  • Melissa Wagstaff (2001): Researcher, Home Office
  • Thea Walton (2001): Senior Investigator, Prisons and Probation Ombudsman
  • Chris Yorke (2004): Postgraduate Student

Feedback from the students indicated that they were very happy with the event and found it to be useful and informative. 93% of those that completed feedback forms found the session to be helpful or very helpful. Typical comments were:
