Study schools
Study schools are held annually at the University of Portsmouth over two days. The schools are residential sessions which give distance learning students opportunities to experience in-class sessions, engage in personal tutorials and meet other students and staff. Campus based students are also invited to attend lectures and seminars offered by Institute staff and speakers from other universities and criminal justice agencies.
Past speakers have included:
- Jack Straw, Home Secretary 1997-2001
- Dame Barbara Mills, Director of Public Prosecutions 1992-1998
- David Rose, Author of In the Name of the Law
- Professor Rod Morgan, former HM Chief Inspector of Probation
- Michael Mansfield QC, barrister
- Sir David Ramsbottom, former Chief Inspector of Prisons
Other speakers have included eminent academics and researchers, senior police officers, probation officers and key figures in criminal and community justice research.
