The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) presents A Hundred Seas Rising, by Suki Chan, a Turning Point South East RELAY commission in partnership with Aspex, CCi Faculty SPACE Offsite Programme, and Quay Arts, Isle of Wight.
This large scale sound installation is inspired by Charles Dickens' novel, A Tale of Two Cities and references the Hundred Flowers Movement in 1950s China, exploring how literature might be implicated in the imagination and trajectories of revolutions.
The installation features the voices of 100 members of the public in London and the south east (including University staff and students) of all ages and backgrounds, each reflecting on their ideas for change. To hear five 'sound bite' voice, go to http://soundcloud.com/aspexgallery/sets/a-hundred-seas-rising-suki-chan.
In addition to student and staff voice contributions, six CCI students have been working closely with Suki on the project over the last few months:
There will be a Roaming Desk where you still have an opportunity to contribute to the project, self-recording your own voice, talking about ideas of change or revolution. It will be touring various points around the city and the IoW and more information will follow.
