Event date: 26 Sep 2012 - 26 Sep 2012

Time: 6.00pm
Venue: Richmond Building

The Centre for Enterprise Research and Innovation (CERI) presents the seminar Tackling stress in the workplace.

Speakers

  • Michelle Spirit, FCIPD, is a qualified and experienced learning and skills specialist, trainer, mental health nurse, coach and psychotherapist. She has a proven record of success in creating innovative solutions in these fields, and in securing external funds to deliver ground breaking projects.
  • Dr Tammi Sinha, Principal Lecturer specialising in Operations Management, Business improvement and Creativity.

Addressing stress in the workplace brings significant benefits

  • Improved learning capacity and performance.
  • Fewer retention issues.
  • Reduced absenteeism and presenteeism.
  • Increased morale.
  • Less risk of compensation claims for unmanaged workplace stress.

However, if ignored it can become a big problem – it is the single biggest cause of sickness in the UK, costing employers £700m annually.

There is plenty of research telling us about the issue but not much practical advice for those who want to know how to find out if stress is an issue at individual or organisational level, and if so what to do about it.

This event will plug that gap by providing down to earth, practical advice on spotting and combatting stress, providing a thought provoking session on short term 'First Aid' solutions along with longer-term solutions based on research and experience of what does and does not work, some of which many will find surprising.

This event is for managers, leaders, those working in HR and anyone with an interest in performance management. It is also suitable for individuals experiencing high levels of workplace stress.
