Taking a sabbatical year can be one of the most rewarding years of your life; it certainly has been for me. Some students who have been a sabbatical at Portsmouth have loved their year in office and have said that an extra year, working on behalf of the students, has enhanced their overall university experience.
Becoming a sabbatical is a wonderful way to create change that really betters student life. With this job you really do get out what you put in, so I really hope that you will want to make your manifestos come to life and work to create a 'positive impact on every Portsmouth student' during your year.
I have really enjoyed my two years of being a sabbatical officer and if the rules allowed me, I would definitely run again. I have learned so much from being both a VP and President of the Union that I don't think any other job would have allowed me. The role of sabbatical is so varied that every day is completely new and this is one of the things that I love about the Union.
