The University offers training opportunities for students with all three Services. If you are a British citizen, studying on a full-time degree course, over 18 and medically fit, then you may be eligible for membership of the University Royal Naval Unit, Army Officers' Training Corps or Air Squadron. Although these three units are based in Southampton they are open to all university students in the Solent area and there is always a strong contingent from Portsmouth. The aim of each unit is to encourage an awareness of the Armed Forces and a general involvement in the activities of the individual Service; there is no obligation to subsequently join the Services although many do. In addition to learning military skills there are plenty of opportunities for sport, adventurous training and personal development plus an excellent social life, and most students find the experience invaluable.

Find out about the Royal Navy and maritime affairs - Go to sea in the Unit's own Archer Class ship HMS BLAZER - gain RYA qualifications in navigation and seamanship plus sailing qualifications.
