Make an environmental pledge

Act on CO2

We take our impact upon the environment seriously and no doubt you do too. If everyone were to make small changes to daily habits we can together make a significant contribution to reducing our carbon footprint within Halls.

We therefore expect you to make the following GREEN PLEDGE before you arrive by promising to:

  • Recycle as much as possible during your stay in halls
  • Switch off lights and appliances whenever you leave your bedroom or an empty kitchen. Switching off appliances at the plug socket saves standby energy
  • Switch off your computer and monitor when not in use or set to sleep mode
  • Keep your windows closed and curtains drawn when heating is on
  • Only fill your kettle with the amount of water you actually plan to use
  • Report dripping taps / leaks to your Hall reception
  • Take shorter showers
  • Defrost your freezer once a term
  • Use 'Bags for Life' available from local supermarkets rather than plastic carrier bags
  • Give unwanted items to charity via the Halls 'Bag it Up for Charity' scheme

Recycle: Don't waste it!

Halls Environmental Ambassadors will visit accommodation areas during your first few weeks to remind you about the pledge and encourage you to try to commit to all or some of those listed.
