Gas safety

In the University Halls of Residence all gas appliances are checked regularly and copies of gas safety records are available from your Halls reception.

What to do if you smell gas inside your accommodation

If you smell gas inside your accommodation:

  • turn the gas supply off at the safety valve
  • open doors and windows to let the gas escape
  • don’t light any naked flames (lighter, match, candle, and so on)
  • don’t touch any electrical switches: turning a light on or off can ignite escaping gas

Once you've followed the above steps, please contact your Hall reception as a matter of urgency
