Support services

Supporting you

We realise that living in a close community for the first time and sharing a flat for a year with people that you have never met before can be difficult. That's why we have a team of professionally trained Student Support Managers whose role is to help you get through your first year.

Our staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for every week of your stay, and can provide:

  • Evening arrangements where you can drop in for a chat
  • Appointment only sessions where we aim to fit in with your availability

All conversation is completely confidential; we will not act upon a matter unless you want us to.

If we cannot help you with a specific issue, we will definitely know someone within the University that will be able to help. Or you can speak to any of the other University support services.

Residential Assistants

You can also speak to a Residential Assistant. They are students who have been through the 1st year process before, so they have the knowledge and experience to help.

They have been trained to assist with all manner of issues and they will be only too pleased to help. They are not members of staff but fellow students that can always be relied upon to be a friendly port of call. Please see your hall reception for contact details.

Registering with a doctor and dentist

One very important thing to do when you arrive in Portsmouth...

Register with your local doctor

It's much easier to do this when you are fit and well than when you are feeling ill. There will be some questions to answer, identification to be shown and forms to fill out.

Visit the Health pages for more information on registering with a doctor and dentist.

Social concerns

Halls services (students in bar)

Everyone can feel 'socially anxious' in varying degrees. It might be a one-off circumstance that is particularly overwhelming; or something that occurs in lots of situations.

Be assured even though it is often unseen - it is very common!
