Private accommodation

To find more information about private accommodation go to:

For many students, when you move into a shared house or flat it will be the first time that you encounter neighbours. You will have had neighbours in your parental home - but wasn't it always mum or dad who sorted things out with them? Suddenly you have the added responsibility of being the point of contact and the representative of the house where you now live.

The Being a Good Neighbour tips and hints are designed to make that transition a little smoother, and to give you some assistance in some of the things you need to consider.

You can also visit the Student and Neighbour Liaison service for advice on living in harmony with your neighbours.

Lodgings

These are rooms in private houses where the landlord or landlady lives on the premises and share the communal facilities i.e. bathroom, kitchen, and so on. They may be family households although many are offered by single people, often fellow students. You can find more information about lodgings at www.port.ac.uk/lookup/supportservices/housingandaccommodation/lodgings.

Halls of Residence

For those of you living in Halls of Residence, our Residential Services provide essential support and advice during your time in Halls.

Department of Student Housing

Student Housing is here to help you find the right home and to look after your housing needs throughout your time at University.

Whether you are in Halls or private accommodation, the department offers a free advice service dealing with all aspects of housing, ranging from gas safety to harassment and illegal eviction, plus advice leaflets and house hunting books available freely to all students.

Student Housing also provide an online accommodation database at www.portsmouthstudentpad.co.uk so you can easily search our Student Housing-registered private shared houses/flats and lodgings.
