Police Registration

Certain nationalities have to register with the Police within seven days of arrival in the UK. This will be indicated on your visa.
You would normally have to register if you are intending to stay in the UK for more than six months and are from one of these countries:

  • Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan
  • Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil
  • China, Colombia, Cuba
  • Egypt
  • Georgia
  • Hong Kong (SAR)
  • Iran, Iraq, Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan
  • Lebanon, Libya
  • Moldova, Morocco
  • North Korea
  • Oman
  • Palestine, Peru
  • Qatar
  • Russia
  • Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria
  • Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan
  • United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
  • Yemen

Hampshire Police visits the University of Portsmouth during the first semester and appointments can be made by contacting the International Student Advisers. This service is for enrolled students and dependants only.
If you arrive at any time after the first semester, you will have to register with Police in Winchester yourself. You can ask the International Office for help in making an appointment.

Documents needed to register with the Police:

  • your passport
  • your CAS visa letter
  • £34 cash
  • proof of current address (contract or utility bill)

Please note that once you have registered it is your responsibility to keep your Certificate up to date. If you change your address or extend your visa you must go to the local police station to have your Certificate changed.
