When does the holiday begin? How can travel companies improve consumer experience between booking and travelling.

My PhD researchis considering how holiday providers can extend the tourism experience and develop pre-travel opportunitieshis work hopes to review the relatively new concept of customer experience management (CXM) as a construct within the tourism sector and apply to the cruise tourist journey. It is planned mixed methods surveys and semi-structured interviews will be undertaken to clarify academic thinking. It is hoped that the impact of the research will enable tourism practitioners to implement this innovative relationship management model further and apply to the various stages of the tourists’ journey.

In addition, it is planned that this research will provide a critical review of this emerging subject and help provide understanding of its application. My MSc in Cultural and Tourism Management considered loyalty programmes within heritage visitor attractions and used  Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as a case study.
