Biography

Having had a career in marketing, I first started at Portsmouth Business School in January 2012 as a PTHP in the Marketing and Sales and HRM and Organisation Studies and HRM Subject Groups , where I taught on a variety of business and marketing units.  This role became permanent in July 2016 and I am now a Lecturer in the Marketing and Sales Subject Group.

My industry experience includes product and services marketing, for UK and multi-national organisations in the private sector, as well as for the UK public sector.  My most recent position was with a local authority tourism marketing service.

I am currently nearing completion of an ESRC-funded CASE studentship PhD at the University of Southampton, which examines the role played by small-scale cultural events in market town vitality.

I have presented my research a number of conferences, including the Association of American Geographers’ Annual International Conference and the Royal Geographical Society Annual International Conference.  I am a Postgraduate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Teaching Responsibilities

I teach on the marketing, tourism and hospitality programmes.  I am unit coordinator for two MSc Business and Management Dissertation Specialisms: Tourism and Hospitality (U25163) and Work-based Research Project (U25162).

Research

I am interested in the economic, social and cultural impacts of festivals and events.  My PhD research focusses on the impacts of small-scale cultural events located in market towns; with a focus on how they support the retail and service provision in their host locations, as well as the effect of these events on the image of place.
