I joined Portsmouth Business School in September 2002 following several years' experience working in business-to-business marketing communications and marketing management, in technology industry organisations. I was appointed as Principal Lecturer in 2010 fulfilling the role of Curriculum Development lead and Course Leader for Undergraduate BA (Hons) Marketing, Marketing with Psychology and Digital Marketing pathways until November 2014. Since then, alongside teaching and research, I am the chair of a working group of colleagues from PBS as well as central support services, reviewing personal and professional development of students across the Faculty as "Employability & Enterprise Coordinator".
I provide, and support others to provide mentoring to students with business and enterprise start-up ideas, co-ordinate student societies, and facilitate work-related learning opportunities with networks of employers of all types and sizes.
Reflecting my "Every day is a school day" motto, I am currently studying a PhD part-time, which involves exploring attitudes, behaviours and mind-sets which enable student learning-gain through engagement in employability and entrepreneurial activities, both inside and outside of the classroom. As an active member of the Business Education Research Group (BERG), I have developed published works and conference papers on “EmployaGility”. This concept is proposed to move the employability agenda forward, towards a small and social enterprise focus, where students and graduates utilise entrepreneurial behaviours to capitalise on opportunities not just now, but for their life-long learning journey and career development trajectories.
I coordinate and teach on a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate units, including marketing principles, marketing research and planning, specialising in brand management and small business marketing. In addition to teaching, my previous roles included Level 1 Year Tutor for Human Resources and Marketing pathways, Departmental Electives Coordinator and Personal Tutoring Coordinator across first and second year levels. As someone with foreign language skills and overseas study experience, I am able to relate well to our broad-ranged student body. I was elected to sit on the University Learning and Teaching Committee and assist with various PBS Faculty senior management groups. I have acted as External Examiner for Ulster University, Canterbury Christchurch University and University of Hertfordshire on their business and marketing undergraduate programmes.
My research interests include employability, enterprise, entrepreneurial education, learning-gain, gamification, small business (SME) marketing and branding.
