I gained a PhD at Manchester University in modelling deformation in polycrystalline materials, sponsored by the British Ministry of Defense. In 2012, I joined the solid mechanics group at Oxford University to study deformation and damage in welded steel joints for power stations, sponsored by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In 2014, I joined IMDEA Madrid materials institute to investigate the micromechanical mechanisms of the failure of a nickel superalloy under fatigue and creep conditions for aircraft engines. This project was partly sponsored by a European Marie Curie fellowship and by ITP Aero Engines. In January 2015, I joined the University of Portsmouth as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.
