Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer at Portsmouth Business School, and a member of the Business Information Systems sub-group, within the Operations & Systems Management Subject Group.

I have taught information systems in the areas of virtualisation, service oriented architecture, cloud computing, and ERP to undergraduates and MBA students. Before that I taught on the Operations Management course in the area of Quality Management, and Business Systems Development.

I introduced the teaching of SAP Enterprise Resource Planning to the faculty, and manage the operation of systems used in teaching at undergraduate levels five and six:

  • SAP Business Warehouse

Industry Background

Before joining Portsmouth Business School, I worked in light and heavy engineering in a variety of project and engineering management roles for over twenty years, including, as Engineering Manager at a major air conditioning and refrigeration multi-national corporation, directing all product development in Western Europe. Products developed during this period included multi-circuit computer controlled screw water chillers, scroll compressor air conditioning units, beer coolers and other plant for some of the largest companies including Unilever, Lehman Brothers, AMD, the Ministry of Defence and Boots Ltd. Other customers included major UK shopping centres, such as Brent Cross Shopping Centre and Bluewater Park, and European banks.

  • Several units teaching OSM and Accounting & Finance subject groups with SAP ERP software
  • A BI unit supported by SAP Business Warehouse business analytics software

Learning & Teaching Responsibilities

These include the introduction of new pedagogies of learning, including pioneering work on the use of active learning (TEAL/SCALE-UP) classrooms; flipping the classroom, and students as teachers & producers; screencasting and development of high quality media; the use of video in teaching; the impact of mobile devices on learning; and further applications of session capture in teaching.
