Biography

I am a Human Resources professional with experience in public and private sector organisations.  I have worked in diverse environments and have taught groups of learners in the workplace, in Further and in Higher Education, from level 2 to Masters.  Before starting an academic career, I served as a commissioned officer in the Royal Navy and worked in manufacturing companies (fabrication and FMCG), providing HR Business Partner support and HRM/HRD generalist service.  I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Teaching Responsibilities

I have over ten years’ teaching experience, lecturing in learning & development, HR business context, applied HRM & HRD, and research methods.  Employed as a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management, I teach mainly on professional HRM & HRD postgraduate programmes. I have been Course Manager for the full-time MSc in Human Resource Management and the MSc HRM/HRD Top-Up (research methods/dissertation programme).  I have supervised more than 25 Masters students to successful dissertation completion.

Research

I am currently a M/PhD candidate studying with Kings College London. My research examines individuals’ experiences of careers and career success, particularly in SMEs.  My other research interests include student development through voluntary work, and learning in the workplace.
