Having worked for several international companies and as a consultant in the private and public sectors, I have management experience of the challenges faced by organisations as they respond to change and seek to improve performance.
I have an interest in Work-Based Learning as a means of enabling individuals to learn and develop through experiential learning. Drawing employers, professional bodies, training providers and Universities together, 'Work-Based Learning Partnerships' provide exciting learning, development and qualification opportunities with positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
The introduction by the government of Higher Level Degree Apprenticeships provides a formal framework and funding mechanism for such partnerships between employers, employees and the HE sector.
I served as an External Examiner at Kingston University for its postgraduate Work-Based Learning postgraduate management degrees. I am currently an External Examiner with Surrey University Business School and the University of Hertfordshire.
As an author, I have written book chapters on Managing Performance and Change, and several articles which appear in the HR Bulletin: Research and Practice journal published by University of Portsmouth and CIPD.
I am co-author of the book Contemporary Themes in Strategic People Management: A Case-Based Approach, published by Palgrave Macmillan, a textbook aimed at scholars, students and managers who are interested and involved in managing people.
Currently MBA Director, my teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level has focused on the strategic management of people and performance, particularly in the areas of Performance Management, Strategic HRM and Leadership.
I developed and led the MSc in Leadership and Management at Portsmouth Business School, a Work-Based Learning postgraduate programme to provide experienced managers with opportunities to gain an academic qualification. I have also led the Masters programme in Coaching and Development run in conjunction with a leading international coaching consultancy company.
