Professor in Development Economics, Member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. I have chaired the Research Degrees programme in the Business School and have successfully suported doctoral students to completion on diverse topics including; the the Resource Curse and Kuwati development, artisanal fisheries development in Sierra Leone, and trade and economic integration in Central America.
I teach on a variety of development, trade and Latin American economics related courses in both the Business School and the School of Languages and Area Studies. I am fluent in Spanish, having been visiting Professor in Agricultural Economics at the Posgrado en Economía y Planificación del Desarrollo (POSCAE) at the National State University of Honduras in the early 1990s. This period proved to be a springboard for his early research interests - three books being published [in Spanish] on the political economy of Central American agriculture.
I have published in internationally renowned journals such as World Development, Food Policy, Marine Resource Economics, Climatic Change, Marine Policy, The Journal of Latin American Studies, European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Kyklos, Natural Resources Forum, Oxford Review of Education, Agriculture and Human Values, the African Development Review and Defence and Peace Economics. Besides being a member of the Editorial Board of Economic Issues and Environmental Management, Iam a regular reviewer of articles for a wide variety of academic journals and has evaluated project proposals for a wide variety of national and international funding agencies.
